Some of the ardent Labour supporters were yesterday proudly sharing on social media a photo of Muscat surrounded by youngsters beside a photo of Gonzi surrounded with somewhat older followers, the message being that Muscat is the new hope for our youths.
Let's leave to the side the obvious: that Muscat's Labour is based on media marketing and perceptions, rather than policies and decisions. We're on the brink of a general election and we still don't have a clue at how he is realistically going to keep his promises (though Labour's current enthusiasm for Hollande's victory might suggest how: he promised an increase in the highest bracket of taxation to 75%). And let's never mind that if it were for Muscat's anti-EU campaign, we wouldn't be able to dream half of the dreams and aspirations we have today.
The point is that I'd rather compare what the two leaders are actually saying than how they are posing for photographs. Here's an example -
Muscat: "A new Labour government could provide all young people with a guarantee they would be studying, training or in employment after they turned 16. Those who opted not to continue with their education had to be provided with better employment in which they could advance." (source)
Gonzi: "We urge everyone to invest in their education. Don’t wait for Muscat to train you but choose your subjects while studying and there will be jobs when you finish." (source)
If you're still in doubt which declaration is the most responsible, just choose which one you would rather say out-loud to your children
I am sure which one Joseph will say at home to his daughters, and it isn't the one he says on Sundays to his supporters.
The difference being that as a father, he doesn't want his daughters to grow-up completely dependent on him and unable to cope with life. But as a Labour politician, he wants his followers to depend on him and thank him for his generous providence and messianic arrival.
Just like Mintoff.
You should also mention what a shitty system we currently use at our schools here in Malta. Instead of trying to make fun of Dr Muscat take a look around and I am sure that you can write about other topics. Are you going to write something about the new power station using heavy fuel oil while damaging our health? I can also write another article based on a FAKE GOVERNMENT SCHEME which I had applied for and received an email saying that there is no funds available
ReplyDeleteThat's beside the point. If I had the time I'd write about every topic under the sun. One day I'll write about the other topics as well. In the meantime, why don't you write about them yourself? At this day and age, we're all free to do it.
