The root of our Prime Minister's amorality

You have to read the report of Joseph Muscat's speech in London where he launched the government's citizenship-for-sale scheme for non-EU nationals (before the law is even approved by Parliament, arrogance anyone?). There are two points in his speech which caught my attention:

This relationship is a collective one. It means being able to rely on each other in difficult times and being there to celebrate the good times together. It means making individual sacrifices for the greater good, and knowing that no matter what happens there is a safety net – Maltese society that will always help you get back on your feet.

What is our Prime Minister intending here? How is Malta going to provide a safety net to those who buy Maltese passports? Are the Maltese people, and our national coffers, to act as guarantors should the millionaire go bust or his business get into trouble? This needs to be further explained, because it heavily stinks.

The second point:

The Government’s citizenship programme is aimed at attracting talent to Malta, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said today.

Speaking in London at The Malta Individual Investor Programme, the Prime Minister said the Government’s focus was on the attraction of extremely highly talented and networked people from around the world by offering them the possibility of sharing the Maltese and European journey.

Here the root of our Prime Minister's amorality is made clear: for him, talented and merited people are networked people with money. For our Prime Minister - material wealth and money makes you a talented person.

And this is precisely the root of this government's amoral behaviour. This is why our Prime Minister and his wife saw nothing wrong in befriending and conspiring with millionaire corrupt fraudster Shiv Nair. This is why the Prime Minister sees nothing wrong with leasing his own car to government. This is why the Prime Minister sees nothing wrong in employing his own wife and other Minister's wives. This is why the Prime Minister sees nothing wrong in employing MPs themselves as consultants. This is why the Prime Minister sees nothing wrong with members of Cabinet retaining their private practice. This is why the Prime Minister sees nothing wrong in Ministers lying in their declaration of assets.

For our Prime Minister, these are just ways in which his MPs are making more money, and by making more money, he believes they are becoming more talented and merited.

That's why this government's behaviour is doing more damage to our moral fibre and social fabric than any influx of immigrants can ever do.

But the real scam behind this scheme is that we all know that serious investors won't buy a Maltese passport. Why would they when they can invest for a return on their money, making a profit and at the same time acquiring citizenship by naturalization in other EU countries?

The rich and networked people who would want to buy an EU passport for cash without having their names known, are in their majority criminals, money-launderers and terrorist-cell leaders. And Malta is advertising to be their back-door to Europe and to visa-free travel to the USA.

Shame on you Mr Prime Minister. No one has ever slandered our reputation as much as you.

Il-kont tad-dawl u l-ilma...qed tinsteraq?

Ftit tal-ġimgħat ilu, il-gazzetta The Malta Independent investigat kif is-sistema l-ġdida ta’ kif qed taħdem il-kontijiet l-ARMS kienet qed twassal biex il-konsumaturi jirċievu kontijiet ogħla milli suppost (ara hawn). Diversi ekonomisti u akkademiċi wkoll tkellmu fuq dan u spjegaw kif dan qed jiġri, fosthom Marie Briguglio.
Kif qed jiġri dan? Ħa nipprova nispjega ftit kif taħdem is-sistema. Ir-rati li bihom tħallas għal kull unit mhumiex l-istess. Biex jiġi inkuraġġit li kemm jista’ jkun wieħed ma jikkunsmax aktar milli suppost, hemm skali (brackets) ta' prezzijiet li jogħlew skont il-konsum. Kif tindika t-tabella hawn taħt, jekk ma taqbiżx ċertu ammont ta' units f'sena, tħallas prezzijiet b'tariffi aktar baxxi, u aktar ma wieħed jikkonsma, aktar jiswew il-units.  S'hemmhekk sempliċi.

Sa ftit tas-snin ilu, għalkemm numru ta’ familji kienu jirċievu kont ta’ stima kull xahrejn jew kull tlieta, il-kont attwali kien jinħadem fuq perjodu ta’ sitt xhur. Dan kien ifisser l…

Daphne ma nqatlitx ilbieraħ.
Daphne inqatlet meta esponiet traffikanti tad-droga, bil-provi u bir-ritratti tagħhom, u dawn flok ġew arrestati sabu Gvern jgħattilhom. Għax il-papa kien midħla tal-Partit. Għax kien ħabib tal-Ministru.
Daphne inqatlet meta esponiet korruzzjoni fil-Korp tal-Pulizija, meta esponiet spetturi u kuntistabbli li kienu kompliċi mal-kriminali, u dawn flok tkeċċew sabu Gvern li jtihom il-promotions. Anzi, min minnhom kien laħaq tkeċċa qabel, sab Gvern li reġa' daħħlu lura.
Daphne inqatlet meta esponiet bil-provi każi ta' ħasil ta' flus fuq livell internazzjonali, minn reġimi dittatorjali, u l-Kummissarju, l-Avukat Ġenerali, u l-politiċi tagħna, flok ħadu passi raw kif għamlu biex l-evidenza tinqered jew titħalla taħrab.
Daphne inqatlet meta l-Avukat Ġenerali u tliet Kummissarji tal-Pulizija in fila, raw quddiemhom il-provi ta' kriminalita' organizzata min-nies fil-poter, u għalqu ħalqhom u m'għamlu xejn.

Il-ħarba tac-Chief-of-Staff

Probabli dan ikun isem tajjeb għal xi film. Il-ħasra hija li qed ngħixuh bħala realtà. Keith Schembri din il-ġimgħa kellu jidher il-Qorti fil-kawża ta’ libell li fetaħ hu stess kontra Simon Busuttil. Il-Qorti mar, imma ma marx biex iwieġeb. Mar biex jargumenta li m’għandux iwieġeb. Għax skont hu, jinfluwenza l-inkjesti Maġisterjali li qegħdin isiru.
Il-Maġistrat iddeferixxa l-każ, u għalissa Keith Schembri ħarab milli jwieġeb fil-Qorti. Il-ħarba kompliet wara l-kawża wkoll pero’ hekk kif il-ġurnalist bravu tat-Times of Malta Jacob Borġ, prova jieħu t-tweġiba ta’ Keith Schembri għal mistoqsija “ta’ min hi 17 Black?”, li Keith Schembri ftit ilu qal li kienet parti mill-business plan tiegħu. Araw il-video ta’ din il-ħarba, li telqet mill-Qorti u baqgħet sejra sa Kastillja (ara hawn). Fiha tifhmu kif tnaqqret id-demokrazija f’pajjiżna, hekk kif apparti li ma jweġibx mistoqsija leġittima, Keith Schembri sa jdur fuq il-ġurnalist u jheddu li hu kien “iħallaslu l-paga”.
Keith Schembri f’kummen…
