Riżoluzzjonijiet għas-sena l-ġdida

And l-artiklu deher fin-Nazzjon tal-Ħamis 1 ta' Jannar 2015


F’dawn iz-zminijiet hafna drabi inharsu lura lejn is-sena li tkun ghadha kemm ghaddiet, u naghmlu evalwazzjoni personali ta’ xi jkun mar tajjeb u xi jkun mar hazing. Fid-dawl ta’ dan imbaghad, hafna minna jaghmlu rizoluzzjonijiet ghas-sena li tkun ha tibda.

F’dan l-ispazju ha naghzel tliet rizoluzzjonijiet li nemmen li kulmin hu attiv fil-qafas politiku ta’ pajjizna ghandu jiehu.

L-ewwel u qabel kollox, li inkunu onesti. In-nies jistennew li min qed imexxi, min qed jiehu d-decizjonijiet, ikun onest u car maghhom. Il-politika mihix dwar kemm inkunu pozittivi u kemm nahbu n-negattiv, il-politika hija dwar ir-realizmu tal-hajja ta’ kuljum u kif il-kwalita’ taghha tista’ titjieb. U jekk irridu nkunu realistici, ghandna iva nghidu fejn l-affarijiet ikunu sejrin hazin u x’nemmnu li ghandu jsir biex jitrangaw ghall-ahjar. Ir-realizmu jwassalna wkoll biex inwieghdu biss affarijiet li nafu li jistghu jitwettqu, u mhux naghmlu weghdi li imbaghad ma nkunux nistghu inzommu.

It-tieni rizoluzzjoni li ghandna naghmlu hija li fil-politika inpoggu dejjem l-ewwel u qabel kollox il-gid komuni, qabel il-gid ta’ individwu jew il-gid personali. X’inhu l-gid komuni? It-taghlim socjali tal-Knisja Kattolika, li fuqu jibbazaw ruhhom il-principji demokristjani, huwa rikk hafna fid-definizzjoni u l-punti li jaghmel dwar il-gid komuni. Fosthom jghid li l-gid komuni huwa “il-kundizzjonijiet socjali kollha li jwasslu lil poplu, kemm bhala gruppi u kemm fuq livell individwali, biex jilhaq il-milja tieghu b’mod izjed shih u aktar facli.” Il-kuncett tal-gid komuni allura jfisser li pajjiz ihares fit-tul u mhux biss fil-mument ta’ issa. Ifisser li nippjanaw x’ha jkunu n-nicec li ha nsahhu fl-ekonomija taghna biex il-generazzjoni ta’ ghada jkollha kwalita’ ta’ hajja ahjar. Ifisser li nharsu l-wirt komuni taghna lkoll, kemm dak ambjentali, u kemm dak storiku u kulturali. Ifisser ukoll li nkunu tarka ghal vulnerabbli. Ghaldaqstant, filwaqt li nkomplu nimbuttaw ghal ekonomija izjed libera u hielsa mix-xkiel, u biex ikollna gvern anqas intrussiv, irridu wkoll li l-istat ikompli jhares lil min ghandu kundizzjonijiet li jaghmluhielu difficli biex jimxi ‘l quddiem bil-pass ta’ haddiehor biex dan ma jaqtax lura u ma l-kwalita’ tal-hajja tieghu ma tkunx mizera. Importanti ghalhekk li l-gvern ma jgibx ruhu ta’ ghodda kapitalista ohra, imma tal-ahhar difensur ghal min m’ghandux il-mezzi biex jippartecipa fil-holqien u t-tqassim tal-gid mal-kumplament tas-socjeta’, u tad-difensur ewlieni tal-wirt komuni tan-nazzjon, fosthom l-ambjent, u ma jpoggix interessi ta’ individwi u ta’ klikek ohra qabel dan il-wirt. Wirt li ironikament kienet Malta li fuq livell internazzjonali setturi minnu imbuttat li jkunu meqjusa bhala wirt komuni tal-umanita’ kollha kemm hi.

Fl-ahhar net, li fit-tmexxija u fl-amministrazzjoni tajba dejjem tirrenja s-saltna tad-dritt. X’nifhmu bis-saltna tad-dritt? Nifhmu li f’pajjiz tirrenja biss il-ligi, b’mod ugwali u fuq kulhadd, inkluz fuq dawk li jiktbuha. Tfisser li l-Pulizija tinvestiga u ssegwi l-istess proceduri ma’ kulhadd, kemm mieghi c-cittadin komuni, u kemm mal-oghla Ministru. Tfisser li min jinforza l-ligi u jressaq lil dawk li jiksruha, jigifieri l-Korp tal-Pulizija, jitmexxa b’mod indipendenti u awtonomu minn dawk li jiktbu l-ligi. Ifisser li jkun dan il-korp indipendenti li jiddeciedi hemmx provi biex iressaq nies taht investigazzjoni quddiem il-Qrati tal-Gustizzja, u mhux il-Gvern jew il-Prim Ministru. Ifisser li l-awtoritajiet jimxu bl-istess riga ta’ infurzar fuq permessi u licenzji kemm mieghi c-cittadin komuni, u kemm mar-ragel tal-Ministru. Ifisser li taxxi fuq propjeta’ u ohrajn japplikaw bl-istess mod ghal koppja li ghadha ha tizzewweg, u ghal partit li qieghed fil-Gvern. Ghax jekk tintilef is-saltna tad-dritt, inkunu qed nghixu f’dittatura mohbija u mhux f’demokrazija liberali.

Jekk it-tmexxija prezenti ta’ pajjizna hix qed timxi ma’ dawn it-tliet principji f’dawn l-ewwel sentejn taghha inhalli f’idejkom tiggudikaw. Li hu zgur hu li ahna fil-Partit Nazzjonalista irridu nkomplu nsegwu dawn il-valuri jekk irridu li s-servizz taghna fil-politika jhalli frott li jiswa u jkun vera ta’ gid ghal poplu kollu.

Why I am dropping out of the Anti-ACTA protest

Like many avid internet users, I have followed with interest the debate about ACTA (Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement). After reading numerous articles, watched sensational videos, and discussed ad nauseam with friends, I have realized that what I have come across is a campaign hi-jacked by lies, myths and misconceptions as to rival Malta's misinformed divorce referendum campaign. I have to say that the videos on Youtube   got me worried. I quickly signed the petition, joined the Anti-ACTA groups, and prepared myself for a full-blown fight against the big-governments who want to intrude on our privacy and freedom of expression. Like our MEP Edward Scicluna invited us to do in the University debate last Wednesday, I did not try to understand the details of ACTA but rather saw who the players behind it were.
